Birmingham Public Library announces a Call for Entries for “For Freedoms,” a juried exhibition inspired by the Four Freedoms enumerated in President Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s 1941 State of the Union address (freedom of speech, freedom of worship, freedom from want, and freedom from fear), and coordinated in support of the nationwide “For Freedoms” initiative (www.forfreedoms.org).
• Open to all artists at least 18 years of age currently living in the state of Alabama.
• Student, amateur, and professional artists are all encouraged to apply.
• Open to all traditional and non-traditional two-dimensional visual media, except video and film, related to or inspired by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s Four Freedoms, listed above.
• Forty-eight inch (48”) maximum length in any direction including the framing or mounting.
• All submitted artworks must be available throughout the entire exhibition.
• Artwork must be ready to hang with all hardware. NO saw-tooth hanging hooks.
• Maximum of three (3) entries (one to three) per artist (see attached PDF).
• No entry fee for submissions.
Entry Image Requirements
All entries must be submitted electronically. All images must be in JPEG format, no other formats will be accepted. JPEGs must be 72 dpi and at least 600 pixels but not greater that 1200 pixels in either direction. Maximum file size for any individual image is 1 MB. JPEG images MUST BE labeled: Last Name_First Name_1, 2, 3, etc. Files which are mislabeled or lack the artist’s name will not be viewed by the jurors. For example: smith_joe_1.jpg

The curator of the exhibition will notify accepted artists via email on October 8, 2018. Artists not accepted may not receive an email. Please direct all questions to the curator by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or calling (205) 417-1098.
Delivery, Return, & Liability
All accepted work must be hand delivered and picked up in person. Birmingham Public Library will not accept shipped works nor ship artworks to artists. Great care will be taken with all artwork, but the Library does not provide insurance for exhibited works. Artists are responsible for insuring their own work if they wish. Birmingham Public Library will not be responsible for any loss or damage to work while on the premises or in transit to or from the Library. Any artwork not picked up within seven (7) days of the end of the exhibition will be considered to have been donated to benefit the Birmingham Public Library. The submission of a work of art to this exhibition shall be understood to constitute an agreement on the part of the artist to the conditions set forth in this prospectus.
Accepted artwork may be refused if it does not conform to the entry image and specifications. Absolutely NO substitutions of accepted artworks will be allowed. All accepted work must remain in the Library for the duration of the exhibit. Accepted artists are asked to respond with confirmation of participation. Accepted artists are asked to submit high resolution photos of their accepted work(s) suitable for publication and promotion of the gallery show. Accepted artists are strongly encouraged, but not required, to attend the opening reception.

Sales of Work
Birmingham Public Library takes a 10% commission of any sales; artists are responsible for their own sales tax obligations. Birmingham Public Library will provide interested buyers with the contact information provided by the artist to the Curator in their entry form. Artist and potential buyer are responsible for working out payment and delivery details. Artwork submitted may be “not for sale” at the sole discretion of the artist.

A Show of Heads at Limner Gallery
SlowArt Productions presents the annual group thematic exhibition, A Show of Heads. The exhibition will be held at the Limner Gallery from October 18 - November 10, 2018. Open to all artists working in any media, this exhibition will include all interpretations and portrayals of the human head, from the traditional to the abstract and conceptual. All visions of the head, including partial and multiple heads, will be reviewed and considered.
ELIGIBILITY AND RESTRICTIONS: The competition is open to all artists, national and international, working in all media. All forms of painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, graphics, digital and installation art, video, etc. are eligible. Entrants must be 18 years of age or older to apply. Wall mounted works must not be taller than 72" no wider than 120". Sculptural work must fit through a 36" wide entry door.
EXHIBITION: Winning artists will be featured in a group exhibition at the Limner Gallery, October 18 - November 10, 2018. The exhibition will also be displayed on the Limner Gallery web site and social media pages.
EXHIBITION TERMS: All works in the show must be for sale. The gallery will take a 35 percent commission on all sales. Proceeds from sales will be transferred to the artist immediately upon receipt by the gallery. Sale price is determined by the artist.
ENTRY FEES: There is a $35.00 entry fee for one to four artworks entered, presentation is by digital JPG image files. There is a $5.00 fee for each additional artwork above four. Details of 2D artwork count as an additional artwork. Sculptors may provide one additional view per artwork without cost. Artists accepted to exhibit will not be charged additional fees of any kind. Payments by credit card at time of entry using PayPal, or check or money order payable to SlowArt Productions.
IMAGE USE / COPYRIGHTS: Artist retains all copyrights to submitted images and represented artwork. Digital images submitted with artist entry are for exhibition selection only and will be deleted after completion of the selection process. By entering the competition, artists selected to exhibit grant Limner Gallery rights to use the selected image(s) on printed materials and the gallery web site for promotional purposes only. Limner Gallery and/or SlowArt retain no copyrights or usage rights outside of promoting the artists and their work.
NOTIFICATION: Artists will be notified of acceptance or non-acceptance no later than September 30, 2018. Results will be posted on or before this date at:http://www.slowart.com/results. Notification will be made via email and by posting on the results page. All artists who provide a working email address will be notified via email, if no email is provided, artists will be notified via postal mail only if accepted to exhibit. Type your email address clearly, if a mistake is made you will not be notified.
DEADLINE: The entry deadline is August 31, 2018. Entries must be submitted via email or postmarked by this date.
